Do you use Facebook?

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to start  a  topic to see if there is anyone here on BD that uses Facebook and if so, what do you use it for? Do you use it just to chat with friends or distant family? Do you use it as day to day timeline of your life (yes, some people do this for some reason), do you use it to share photos and videos, do you use it to view pages or groups, maybe you use it to promote a bussiness or bussinesses?


I know that a couple users on BD that I know on a more personal level have a Facebook and use it regularly/daily while others have an account, but rarely ever go on it.


I also seem to always hear people say they don't use Facebook anymore, but they use Twitter and Instagram. Then if you try and bring up Facebook in a conversation, they say 'FACEBOOK! WHO USES FACEBOOK ANYMORE?' and I always roll my eyes because I mean its not like Myspace that died down awhile ago.

Yes I do use Facebook. I don't usually chat with people on there since I am really busy so I mostly just message people if I need to. But I do use to share anything stuff I want with my friends including Christian Music videos or encouraging stuff that would encourage my friends

I do, in fact, use Facebook. For the most part, it's there to keep in contact with family and to know how they are. Most family members won't tell me how their life is going, even if I ask them...instead, they will rather tell Facebook in a status than to tell me on the phone or in a chat in person.

I also chat on Facebook, a lot. Most of my forum members like to message me on there to talk about role-plays on my forum for planning and for any questions that they may have. I'm on Facebook more often than I am on Skype, due to the fact that I refuse to get Skype on my phone (it drains the batter way too much) and my FB messages still get to my phone.

I knew that Charlie doesn't use Facebook at all but I know his brother Arthur is on there even though he hasn't posted about it yet

Personally i use Facebook whenever i remember just to make sure nothing came up. I use it mostly for chating with my friends but also with my family. We live miles away and we sometimes chat. I am not a daily user of facebook but when i have nothing else to do (rarely) i use it!

I figured Charlie would say that. But still Facebook has good and bad things about it. But it can't be for everyone

I access Facebook quite often actually, but have decided to not post on there as much as I used to (since I've been getting a large volume of hate-mail in response to them).

Yes I use Facebook quite frequently,I.enjoy sharing pics of my kids and seeing what my friends and family post. So yes I do use fb

Facebook has to use either Flash or Adobe Reader since people do post videos on there or even have artists going live on the website with sharing videos with what is going on with them. But that is what I am guessing

Well thats not entirelly true, facebook itself does not require flash. It has a mobile site and is mostly coded with html5 among other things, which mobile devices support. The only things that may require flash are the games and thats really it.

According to some Facebook news that I read a little while back, this website has now been coded to block all versions of Flash due to security issues. Not surprisingly, reaction to this coding was mixed.

flash player is outdated, and is susceptible to hacking attacks, therefore is has been unsupported by a lot of browsers, chrome however has been installed with HTML player, as has YouTube.

I dont know what by it making you more 'susceptible to hacking attacks', being flash really has nothing to do with hacking stuff. Really the ONLY downside to flash is that mobile devices dont really support it and in this day in age, such can be tragic for a site. Luckily most sites including youtube, facebook, etc are coded with html5 so that mobile devices can easily use all features on a site.

in response to 1mtvfan's comment, adobe updates flash player quite often in order to ensure that it doesn't get hacked. I'm not too sure what a hacker would acomplish by doing this though, since flash player has no personal information stored on/in it.

flash player is outdated, and insecure, that's why it's falling out of use, the more updated and secure from is HTML player

Flash player is still used until everything on the web is html5 or other which is still many years in the future. Even if flash isnt the best out there anymore, I dont see any hacker trying to hack adobe flash as it really serves no purpose and is pointless.

well it is so old that it is vulnerable to security attacks, ergo it is being disused now.

Who would want to attack adobe flash? That would be pointless .


Mainly streaming and gaming sites still use flash as well as most ads. Once no site every needs it, then and only then will it go completely away.

hackers look for the weak points everywhere they can find them, thus Adobe flash player is being phased out on most of the world's common browswers

Even so, they may be phasing it out, but it will take many years to completly stop being used.
