Train sets!

i am also still looking for some more cylindrical grain hoppers, and also anything of interest in the way of model buildings and track-side scenery, so feel free to offer some up if you have any laying about or know how to come about them

Hello everyone!

My twin brother and I got a package from our friend DJ Marvelous Mart yesterday, which had 2 brand new grain hoppers in it. 

As of 3/15/2019, work on clearing the "bedroom" section of the layout room has started. Unfortunately there is a king-size bed in there which cannot be moved, and it creates a major challenge in terms of the layout design.

You guys are building the train set in an occupied bedroom? That sounds uncomfortable for the person living in there lol.

when building a train set there are ways to work around things there Tester i use to have one when i was a kid so we use to build them with things in the way still was alot of fun

U have the metaphorical "wrong end of the stick" tester, but such is an easy state to reach due to the lack of details. The "train room" has not been used as a bedroom for almost 2 years now but my mother is wanting to keep the bed in there in case of people staying over (or to handle alcoholics who have passed out which, thankfully, doesn't happen very often). My dad is the main designer and builder of the PLRX, and he has a plan to accommodate this obstacle.

I am assuming PLRX is the name you guys chose for the new train set?

Sort of yes... The actual name is Phoenix Line Railroad but every railroad in the world has or had a reporting mark.
Therefore, PLRX is the reporting mark of the new setup
Lastly, any reporting mark that ends with X means that its a private company.

Seeing as how this setup rose from the ashes of its predecessor, the name is quite fitting. Unfortunately, construction of the PLRX has been stalled out for a while now (due to a lack of design ideas as well as the major priorities of life) but I for one remain cautiously optimistic that the construction of this setup will be completed as soon as physically possible.

As of yesterday (3/18/2019), one part of the former "Bedroom" section of the train room has at least two sections of benchwork installed. My dad has managed to get several more benchwork sections "roughed in" but its very uneven and still needs to be secured at present. There is a plan to move the bed in this part of the room away from the wall as well, but this hasn't been completed... yet.

Unfortunately there has been some conflict about a few of the hopper cars as of today (3/20/2019), but my twin bro and I have managed to solve it

Frustratingly my twin brother's selfish and stubborn mentality has managed to infiltrate our shared no.1 hobby. According to some research on my part, some of these cars (more specifically 4 examples of an American Car & Foundry 55' CenterFlow 4-bay covered hopper) are not meant to carry grain. These cars were intended to carry items (such as flour or plastic pellets) but my twin bro has refused to accept this. For a while it was looking like the PLRX's "Grain Express" was terminated before it even began operating, but I've had to give in and accept his demands in order to save it.

As of 3/23/2019, there is a 2nd tunnel bored out in order to accommodate a grain elevator as well as an intermodal yard. Unfortunately there are only two sections of benchwork permanently installed at the moment, but the work to install more is ongoing.

Hello everyone, another update from me here...

     As of 3/25/2019, the "Common" area of the train room has a final piece of benchwork installed. There is more work to be done here though, as a drop bridge needs to be installed in front of the access stairs in this area. Regarding the "Bedroom" section, it has some minimal trackwork now but its benchwork remains mostly incomplete at this time.

     The plan to move the king-size bed in this part of the room also has yet to be done but this will be done in the coming month.

Hey all, got another update from the PLRX to share...

     As of 3/27/2019, the king-size bed in the "Bedroom" section of the train room has been moved away from the wall to accommodate some new benchwork in the coming days. Unfortunately, most of the existing benchwork in this area has yet to be permanently secured (which is delaying the track work) but I'm trying to remain mostly optimistic about this work being completed as soon as possible.

As of 4/2/2019, the PLRX's mainline now runs the entire width of the train room. A lot of work remains to be done however.

The PLRX has had a little more trackwork done (as of 4/3/2019) but there is no new benchwork installed. Unfortunately this means that there won't be any trains operating on the setup for a while yet, but such cannot be helped.

hello all,

been doing some track testing today (4/4/2019) and everything is working power wise. This creates a big of a snag though, as the yard area will probably cancel out the power. Unfortunately there is no solution for this problem as yet but my dad is racking his brain in a very concentrated effort to find one. I have nothing to report in terms of new bench or track work at this time, but such will be happening at some point in the near future.
