Amplifiers or powered speakers?
Which do you use? Depending on your desired setup, you can either use an amplifier with a pair of speakers, or use powered speakers that have their own power.
I use a 2500-watt amplifier with my recording studio. Why so much power? I have the amplifier output going to three sets of speakers, so for every set of speakers you have the wattage gets halved. So in the end, each speaker gets 625 watts of power, still enough to have a nice, crisp sound.

Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
Well I have used both at atleast one point or another.
I have used computer speakers.
I also have used HUGE speakers that did need an ampifiler. Didn't use it terribly much because the downstairs neighbor wod be complaining!

Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
well, many of the modern computer speakers are both powered, and amplified, so it is hard to buy a set that is not simply powered or amplified.

I think they mean like loud amplified, like REALLY REALLY loud, much louder then you can get with your computer speakers. These also need an external device known as an ampilifer to work.
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
I think you're confused on the term "powered speaker". A powered speaker has an amplifier in it. And for computer speakers, yeah, they are often powered. Speakers without amplifiers are often used in the music industry, though.

Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
Ones that need a seperate amplifier to make the sound louder. Correct?
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
most are amplified as well as powered, but externally powered

He means externally powered speakers that have no ampilification of its own and needs a seperate amplification device often located bacm stage or somewhere to amplify the sound to the desired level. Often used at concerts, etc.
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
all i know is what i have said, most computer speakers are externally powered because of their amplification on-board

Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
That's accurate, Brandon. Obviously since computer speakers are used by everyone with a computer, so they have an amplifier built in as so not to overcomplicate things for everyone.

Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
Apologies for double post; I can't see an edit button on mobile.
But also there's a difference between power and amplification. All speakers need power; they're circuits. So you could say the term "powered speaker" is a little misleading, as it refers to only those with their own amplification.

Don't worry about the double post, your mobile very version is extremelly basic and stripped of alot. The site widgets also don't appear on it. I would suggest viewing the site from 'classic version', BD is pretty easy and mobile friendly to begin with anyway.
As for the speakers thing, yeah but also by some speakers not having their amplifier the user who is setting it up has more control over certain things (bass, left and right audio voulme, etc).
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
the mixer on your computer controls your sound balance.

We're not talking about computers though mtvfan, that is what we are saying.
You know thkse huge speakers at concerts? THATS WHAT we mean. Those are conrolled by a seperate ampifiler often located backstage.
We are not talking about computer speakers.
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
well, something has to control them and their sound, but they do not come with thweir own because they're all only plug and play

Mtvfan, have you ever been to a concert? You know those big speakers they use on the stage? Those are NOT plug and play. They must set up with tons of cords, hooked up to a seperate amplifier then controlled via that amplifier.
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
that's not a computer speaker, and is a different application

Application?
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
the usage application indicates computer speakers, which are both powered and amplified most of the time

I think you are confused, we are not reffering to THAT kind of 'powered' speakers. Computer speakers are NOT included in the speakers being discussed in this topic .
Re: Amplifiers or powered speakers?
of course people can run both speakers and amplifiers on their systems if they wish

We are talking about speakers that are used generally for computers that require an amplifier to work, otherwise they could not.
We understand computer speakers have their own source power are amplifed already, but we are NOT talking about computer speakers!
