Re: Microsoft Debate
First topic message reminder :
If anyone is wondering, Windows 8 was originally intended for mobile devices but Microsoft had to develop the 8.1 patch because many people still use a desktop computer rather than a mobile device. Unfortunately there's going to be a time when support for win7 (which is what I'm using at present) will end, but I'm hoping that this doesn't happen anytime soon.

I am going to start using Windows 10 very soon, while a dead computer mainboard has forced 1mtvfan to do the same.

the motherboard in my old computer was failing, and it would have cost too much to replace it and reinstall everything

Re: Microsoft Debate
Well I do love Windows 10. I have been using it for a long time now. It does take a while to get used to it. But my other computer stopped working and now it is only thing I got to use till I do get another laptop at some point. But I could install Windows 8 on there or just keep Windows 10 on there. The only thing with Windows 10 it does take a long time to install updates on there from Mircosoft. I would suggest doing the updates while your sleeping since it will be all installed by the time you wake up in the morning. But anyways Windows 10 is great. I hope Arthur and Charlie do like Windows 10 when they are using it too

I am going into the use of Windows 10 with some anxiety as I'm still not completely familiar with it.

Re: Microsoft Debate
Yes, I've been using it for a few months now.
I have to say that it does have a few advantages over Win7 (such as I can now use OBS on my BGRN shows) but it does have some disadvantages too (such as annoying and somewhat useless advertising, which I've been experiencing on occasion lately).

You can disable most of the cortana 'advertisements' in the cortana section of the settings. That should get rid of those.
I assume you mean the texts on the lock screen?

So far I've had a pop-up about a now former Canadian Broadcasting Corporation newscaster, a dating service, casino games and something about wining a new iPhone. These show up on the lower right-hand of the screen and go along with the notification icon in the taskbar.

Re: Microsoft Debate
I am still loving Windows 10. I don't see any ads at all since I do have Adblock on Google Chrome. The only way I do see ads is on Mircosoft Edge which doesn't have any Adblock at all. Been used to Windows 10 for a long time now. But I was on Windows Vista till it crashed and wouldn't start up at all. But been working off a laptop now. I will have to get another laptop to hook up all of the other things from the old computer. But I am sure I would be running Windows 10 on there. I do have a disc for Windows 8 but I am thinking it would take a while to get used to it. That is my thoughts

This isn't normal, you must hage installed something that gave you pop ups.

Run any sort of anti-virus program, I would suggest MalwareBytes as it scans it and deletes any un-needed files and anything that can cause that.

I did have Norton but the tech shop replaced it with AVG.
So far I haven't managed to get Norton back yet.

Dont know how good avg is these days. Try running a scan on the computer to see if it has any viruses.

Re: Microsoft Debate
I didn't like Norton at all. AVG was good but McAfee is the best. You got to pay for it but still it does even better than AVG and Norton. I haven't gotten a virus at all. But it is up to you if you like Norton or AVG. But I would say stick with McAfee. That is my thoughts Arthur.

My dad was using MacAfee for quite a while but chose to replace it with Norton in an effort to save some cash.

Pretty sure McAfee is cheaper than Norton actually.
Edit: Yep it is just checked!

Well McAfee you can pay for a while year and be protected for a whole year. I am loving it. It looks like it is cheaper too. I would say McAfee over Norton any day

Free Anti Viruses really don't protect against much of anything though.
Re: Microsoft Debate
it works quite well, but your best to get a firewall program as well as an antivirus program, because many web service providers don't include an antivirus program with their web access, a buddy of mine got 3 viruses in one day after he hooked the web cable from his old web provider back into his PC, so he's given up on that web provider, installed a firewall program, and signed on with a new web service
