Has anyone here used Gimp?
Hi everyone,
I am wondering if any of you have used Gimp? I installed it and playex around with it for a bit. I must admit I am still learning how to use it.
If you have used it, what do you like or dislike about it?

GIMP is a free program ..photoshop needs money
If your system is lower than 16 bits, then use GIMP as it supports even 8 bit system
another positive is it can handle just about any format you want ...bmp,gif,jpeg,pdf,png,svg,tiff
negative is no 16-bit per channel color support

Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
now me i have used Gimp and i plan on getting it to have some fun with it
Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
I installed it and played around with it for a few hours and haven't touched it since. I do plan to eventually learn to use it, but it is not at the top of priority list at the moment.
Between Gimp and Photoshop, obviously Photoshop is the better software if you can afford it. If you can't afford it or just want to play around with doing graphic design for fun, then Gimp is the next best thing since it is 100% free and open source. Gimp has most of the basic tools you would need and alot are similar to what Photoshop has so.

Never used Gimp but it certainly seems like a great program.

Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
@BlackScorpion have you ever used Gimp, or have you only ever used Photoshop?
Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
I have also not used this program, and will need a lesson as how it works. I am NOT interested in using the program at the present time however.

Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
Gimp was mainly a Linux only program art until a couple of years ago when they did a version for windows it comes pre installed on any linux distro but for windows you have to download it i'm planning on installing it on Windows 10 to mess with it a bit

Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
Yeah Photoshop is the Rolls Royce of the photo editing industry, but for poor folks like me, we can use Gimp for free and be able to use the most important features of Photoshop.
Thank heavens for open source program development!

Well it has some of the important features of Photoshop anyway.
Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
You don't really need Photoshop, there is also Pixlr Online Editor which has lot of the features we use in photoshop, and best of all it is also FREE and better then GIMP.

Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
anything better then Gimp i think not frank it's almost like saying that an online editor is better then photo shop it's like comparing apple to microsoft and Linux for that matter same goes with image editing software to me i would still go with the Old Image editing software cuz that's just me.
Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
Thanks for sharing I will have to look into that. Is it open source?BlackScorpion wrote:You don't really need Photoshop, there is also Pixlr Online Editor which has lot of the features we use in photoshop, and best of all it is also FREE and better then GIMP.
I believe there is also an ancient version of Photo that is now free also, but it is so old it is barely functional on new machines and the tools are primitive. You would be better off using Gimp then it. I believe it's Adobe CS 3 (with Photoshop 3).
Re: Has anyone here used Gimp?
You should try it out first , then compare, i do some of my editing in it , when i m not at my main computer, It will never be as goos as Photoshop but it does very well, what you need to do in regards to editing and manipulating images.DJAaronRadio wrote:anything better then Gimp i think not frank it's almost like saying that an online editor is better then photo shop it's like comparing apple to microsoft and Linux for that matter same goes with image editing software to me i would still go with the Old Image editing software cuz that's just me.

Don't know if it open source, but it does work well. As far as Photoshop 3, that thing is so old , your lucky it even opens up..
