Farewell Justcast!
Hello all,
I have some very sad news for you, about a week ago, the Justcast team announced on their Facebook group, that due to circumstances beyond their control, they have been forced to permanenatly stop work on the many changes and work they have been doing on the site and will not be able to proceed any further. That said, they are officially closing their doors forever and shutting down the site indefinitelly.
This is sad news for me, as I was looking forward to casting there when they re opened and they seemed close to re opening, but it seems they either ran out of money or just couldnt proceed for some reason.
This is sad news to me, but I will deal with it, since I still have youlive.
I will be removing the Justcast section in an update, fairly soon.
Farewell and R.I.P Justcast, it has been fun and although we are disappointed you will be re opening, we hope you will rest in peace.
Staff edit: This topic has been re named 'Farewell Justcast' and shall now serve as the official farewell topic for Justcastlive.tv . You may leave farewell messages about it here in this thread. ~Brandon

I really thought it would come back up since it seemed to be making so much progress. I suppose maybe it just want meant to be.
Rip Justcast ! You were a great site while you lasted!
Re: Farewell Justcast!
this can be the expected outcome of many fledgling streaming sites, as the cost of bandwidth needed for cams can be astronomical, Stickam alone had to spend something like over $500k a month just to support all those cams in each caster's live streams, so i mean this is often the outcome.

Yeah but Stickam was A MUCH MUCH larger site and company. What brought them down was bad budgeting and marketing and pretty much waiting way too long to implement a vip membership program that might have helped keep it from going under.
Re: Farewell Justcast!
still, the point is that $500k+ a month is a lot to spend each month, and few can afford it

Yeah, I suppose it is alot.
I believe if one goes to a few cheaper server and database providers, that you can even pay it off for the year in one somewhat large lump some and that helps some.
Re: Farewell Justcast!
well, if you can afford it, you keep it open, if not you close it

Actually I am sure there are ones out there much cheaper then 500 k, even if it can't withstand anywhere near the amount huge sites like Stickam could.
For example I am pretty sure Youlive's bills are MUCH MUCH cheaper then that. As remmeber it is a family owned site. The site also has no where near the huge hundreds and hundreds of people streaming at once capacity that sites like Stickam and Blogtv had.
Let us not forget that Stickam and Blogtv were probably two of the hugest streaming sites that ever existed. They both had hundreds, if not thousands of people streaming on them at any given time. That many people require A TON of bandwidth, which is why they wracked up such expensive bills monthly. I reckon small sites like Youlive, Vaughn, Ivlog and Kageshi do not wrack up anywhere close to that much of a bill. If it did, I pretty all the owners would be bankrupt and sleeping in cardboard boxes because they wouldn't be able to afford it. Lol
Re: Farewell Justcast!
it's the bandwidth one pays for, not the website itself, if you can't pay for the bandwidth, there's no point in keeping up the website.

Well there are other costs as well (like for server, database, coders, etc) but yeah that is a big part of it. I was simply pointing out that sone sites dont require as much bandwidth as others. Hence costs for some sites can be cheaper then others.
Re: Farewell Justcast!
maybe so, but the biggest cost is the bandwidth

Re: Farewell Justcast!
It's beginning to look like Justcast's successor Youlive might not come back up, so maybe we should start an RIP thread for that too?

Re: Farewell Justcast!
I never really used Justcast, so I really can not say I miss the site too much, but from what I heard about it, it was a pretty good site.

Re: Farewell Justcast!
i only used that site a couple of times when it was sold it was the final nail in the coffin after that i really didn't use it i only used it when steve owned it justcast was a good site tho
Re: Farewell Justcast!
Yeah the problem was the new owners lacked the knowledge to properly maintain the site and the coder they eventually hired did good, but then one of the owners backed out and forced the closure.

I move that this thread be locked now.

Re: Farewell Justcast!
We don't lock threads unless they break rules or are spammed in, this does neither so I see no reason to lock it.
