Re: Train sets!
update, brackets have been acquired, and are waiting installation, this will eliminate the bad "hump" in the 2 areas where one has shown up

Re: Train sets!
still a further update, one bracket is in fine, the "hump"near the liptonville station has not been completely eliminated, but it has been significantly reduced to the point that it is passable for the westbound train without causing it to disconnect. 2nd bracket is yet to be installed, but will be installed soon, although the hump in the 2nd area is somewhat less, but still present enough to cause unwanted disconnects

Re: Train sets!
Ah ok, well that is ok with me. It means we still get updates on your [Only mods are allowed to see this link] . What are these 'humps' you speak of? How were they formed?
Re: Train sets!
just high spots formed from the warps in the plywood table tops, so the brackets are helping to take those warps out and level things up again, although the "Hump" near liptonville station will never be removed completely, as the board used for it was badly warped from the start.

Re: Train sets!
2nd Hump removal is pending, cannot decide on how to mount the bracket in place in such a way that'll make it easier to hide, but the tunnel idea had to be changed around, as there was not enough room on the side of the section with the helix ramp for a single track portal, but i think i've managed to correct for this setback, pictures follow

helix tunnel side 1

Helix tunnel side 2
the "walls" on either side of the tunnel portals are just chunks of wood, as they are only temporary until something better can be put in their place. so if anyone has any ideas on what would work, or knows anyone that;s into this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

yet another pic of the tunnel and tunnel rock face wall, still planning what to do with other parts of it, am thinking about painting it lightly and adding some fake grass to try and hide the cracks, let me know what you think about it guys.

Re: Train sets!
update,
newest rock face casting has failed again can't try again as i am low on plaster compound that is needed for making them, so until the fall, i will continue to sit out on running sessions until more progress can be made

Re: Train sets!
Thanks for the [Only mods are allowed to see this link] of your [Only mods are allowed to see this link] . It is getting really big and awesome now. Great job on it guys!
Sorry to hear about the rock face failing, it happens! I am sure you will get it right next time.

Re: Train sets!
well, it's not going to get any bigger, but it's just a skeleton right now, which is what i am trying to get rectified, and it's not going well, so my best effort is to sit out on running sessions until the building starts again, and parts for SOO line no, 772 should be in soon so that means it will be returning to service soon, WAHOO! and i am still seeking any advice on the rock faces and the helix tunnels and tunnel walls

Re: Train sets!
1mtvfan, it is very unlikely that you will be able to find any help regarding rock casting on this website. Perhaps you should try a site devoted to this matter.

Re: Train sets!
As much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, there's been a development that may force all of those involved in this operation to pull the current setup down & move it into a new home. I can't get into detail here, but I can say that the "new home" part of this matter is already resolved.

Re: Train sets!
that matter is on the back shelf for now, so the current issue is the landscaping.

Re: Train sets!
Unfortunately, 1mtvfan is wrong about this matter being on the back shelf. Since plans to sell the building that currently houses the setup once the person who legally owns it passes away (which could happen at any time between now and the near future) are now in place, I for one feel that all of the parties who have invested money & time into it need to sit down and have a discussion about its future. Another issue that needs to be talked about is designing a track plan for its replacement in the 3rd floor space of the house owned & occupied by the parents of myself & 1mtvfan

Re: Train sets!
i am not wrong, the issue on the table IS the landscaping, the matter of track plan has been discussed already

Re: Train sets!
As far as I'm concerned, focusing on landscaping a model train layout when its future is in doubt is a major error in thinking but some people are just too naive & short-sighted for their own good.

that is the issue on the table right now, all the others have been dealt with, and i will continue to sit out on running sessions until the landscaping issue is addressed
